About The Millar Tree - from Robert the Bruce to Judy Garland
In late 2004, I picked up some work on my family tree which my uncle Tom Dunbar
(from Singapore and known there as Jock) had started in 1950, and from there I
got hooked. Thanks to the Internet - a tool uncle Tom did not have - I have now
constructed a significant tree centred around my own family. Here you will find
many Millar, Dunbar and Lovie/Lovey family members, plus too many other family
names to mention.

I am grateful to the many people who have contributed fragments, and in some
cases very substantial trees, to aid my effort - John Lovie, Wendy Marshall,
Cris Van Hal, Linda Cameron, Peter Noble, Barbara Terrace, Glenys Prins, Mary
Burgess, Ken Malley, Alison Stimpson, Mary Swayne, Alan Esslemont and many,
many others.

There are many families and names - but I would highlight King Robert the Bruce
and Judy Garland and her daughter Liza Minnelli as ones that may have
particular interest. When I started this, I did not expect to find I was the
sixth cousin of the star of "The Wizard of Oz" and the fourth cousin 8 times
removed of the wife of the great (21) grand nephew of Robert the Bruce, King of
Scots! Or that my wife would be related to an Archbishop of Canterbury (William
Laud) who was beheaded at Tower Hill in London.

All of the data I show here is derived from the public domain or has been
provided by contacts with permission to publish. I have applied the generally
accepted rule of publishing only names for people probably living, but not yet
in contact with me. If you would prefer your details deleted from this site,
please just contact me at john.millar@charteris.com

And please feel free to send me details that are incorrect or missing. A simple
email will do for anything minor, but more substantial items I can only use
accurately and efficiently if it is in a gedcom 5.5 file (as output by most
software packages).

Finally, the relationship tool on this site does not work for trees this big.
However,if you want to know the relationship between any two members of this
tree, drop me an email and I will use my off-line tools to work it out for you.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthday and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
